Early Lead Slips Away as Volleyball Falls in Hard-Fought MCCAA East Opener

The Monarchs held a 1-0 advantage early and led late in set two before Mott rallied to earn a four-set comeback victory.

WARREN, Mich. – 
Macomb Volleyball jumped out to a 1-0 lead and held a late advantage in the second set before the visiting Bears of Mott Community College rallied for a four-set victory to open MCCAA Eastern Conference play. Set scores from Monday's (Sept. 16) conference opener were: 25-22, 23-25, 22-25, 12-25.

With the setback, the Monarchs shift to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Bears moved to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in the MCCAA East.

Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) picked up where she left off last week with 15 kills and only three errors on 33 attempts for a .364 hitting percentage. The 15-kill performance followed last week's 18-kill outing in a 3-1 win over the Madonna Reserves.

Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) followed with 10 kills while Hadley Schaefer (Harrison Twp., Mich./Parkway Christian) posted six kills on an error-free night for a .286 hitting percentage. Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) was also error-free on the attack with three kills on seven attempts for a .429 hitting percentage.

Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) racked up 34 assists and added 14 digs, while the Monarchs were led in the back row by Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) who had a team-best 24 digs. Ashlyn Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) recorded 10 digs to round out the back row leaders.

Defensively at the net, the Monarchs amassed four solo blocks and 12 block assists, led by five block assists from Eller and two each by Pflaum and Schaefer. Eller also added two solo blocks to complete a well-rounded night on the court.
