Monarchs Sweep! Volleyball Defeats Schoolcraft in Three Sets, Moves Even in MCCAA East Play

The Monarchs used a complete team effort to take down a well-coached Ocelots program in three sets.

WARREN, Mich. –
A total team effort from start to finish led Macomb Volleyball to a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Ocelots of Schoolcraft College on Wednesday (Sept. 18) behind set scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23. The win lifts the Monarchs to an even 1-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings. The Ocelots fell to 0-2 early in conference play after the three-set setback to the Monarchs.

The Monarchs were red-hot from the opening serve and held an early double-digit lead on their way to a 25-17 first set victory. Second set action saw the Monarchs once again take a sizeable lead before earning a 25-19 win and set three was highlighted by an incredible comeback as the Blue & White closed out the match with a 6-2 run to post a 25-23 victory and secure the sweep.

Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) was a force for the Monarchs throughout the night, assisting on 26 of the team's 31 kills to go along with 11 digs and three aces. Adeline Tresnak (Dryden, Mich./Dryden) recorded 12 of the team's 26 kills, doing so on a .276 hitting percentage, while Jordan Pflaum (Shelby Twp., Mich./Lutheran High North) followed with eight kills.

Kara Beeker (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) and Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) posted five and four kills, respectively, with Eller once again playing error-free on seven attempts for a .571 hitting percentage.

The twin tandem of Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Ashlyn Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) rounded out Wednesday's leaders with a combined 24 digs.

The Monarchs return to action Monday (Sept. 23) with a trip to Dearborn to take on the Henry Ford College Hawks. First serve is set for 7 p.m. with live stream coverage via Henry Ford available here.
