DEARBORN, Mich. – Macomb Volleyball improved to 2-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings and 5-11 overall with a comeback four set win at Henry Ford on Monday (Sept. 23) in Dearborn. After dropping set one, 25-18, the Monarchs regrouped and rallied to win three straight by set scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-12 to emerge victorious in conference play for the second time in as many matches.
Kaley Eller (Utica, Mich./Utica) and
Hadley Schaefer (Harrison Twp., Mich./Parkway Christian) paced the Monarch attack with 10 kills each, while
Kara Beeker (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower) followed closely with nine and
Grace Amoe (Harrison Twp., Mich./L'Anse Creuse) recorded seven in her return to action.
Sophia Kulaga (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon) and
Alexis Cunha (Richmond, Mich./Anchor Bay) led a balanced defensive effort with 13 and 12 digs, respectively, and
Paige Elliott (Livonia, Mich./Detroit Country Day) continued to set up the offense successfully with 33 assists.
The Monarchs take a break from MCCAA East play the remainder of the week as they travel west for non-conference matches on at Southwestern Michigan College on Wednesday and Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Thursday. Both matches are slated for a 6:30 p.m. start time.
