WARREN – A strong start was not enough for Macomb Women's Basketball on Saturday (Jan. 11) as a two-point game at the half turned into a 68-40 conference-opening setback to the Ocelots of Schoolcraft College. The loss snaps a five-game win streak for the Monarchs, sending the Blue & White to 8-7 overall and 0-1 in the MCCAA East.
The Ocelots improved to 13-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference after pulling away for the win in the latter half.
Down 17-13 after one, the Monarchs used a furious finish to the second quarter to head into the locker room down two at the break, 27-25. The halftime break knocked the Monarchs out of their newfound rhythm as the Blue & White tallied 15 second half points compared to 41 for the Ocelots in the 28-point decision.
Sydney Garon led the Monarchs with 14 points and four 3-pointers made and was followed in the scoring column by
A'Liyah Forris who checked in with seven points and four rebounds.
Asiyah Jihad posted six points and hauled in nine rebounds while battling foul trouble and
Vanessa Galovich notched and equal six points and six boards to round out Saturday's leaders.
