PORT HURON – Macomb Women's Basketball battled tough but couldn't match No. 12 St. Clair County Community College basket-for-basket in the latter half as the Skippers pulled away to win, 68-50, on Wednesday (Jan. 22) in Port Huron. The loss sends the Monarchs to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the MCCAA East. The Skippers improved to 17-2 overall and remained perfect atop the conference at 4-0 with the win.
The Monarchs led 15-14 after one before the Skippers earned a 21-13 advantage in the second quarter to take a 35-28 lead into the halftime break. The third quarter mirrored the second as the Skippers ended the frame with a 21-13 edge before closing out the contest in the fourth with a 12-9 advantage to earn the 18-point win.
A'Liyah Forris paced the Monarch effort offensively with 17 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor and a perfect 4-of-4 clip from the charity stripe. The redshirt freshman guard added four rebounds, four steals and three assists for her latest balanced outing in conference play.
Asiyah Jihad was the only other Monarch to reach double figures and finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting and added six rebounds, while
Janiya McWilliams had nine points and five rebounds
Vanessa Galovich had nine points and four boards.
The Monarchs head to Auburn Hills Saturday to take on Oakland Community College at 1 p.m.
