AUBURN HILLS – Sydney Garon posted a game-high 21 points to lead four Monarchs in double figures scoring as Macomb Women's Basketball earned an 89-75 road win at Oakland Community College on Saturday (Jan. 25). The win lifts the Monarchs to 11-8 overall and 3-2 in the all-important MCCAA Eastern Conference standings.
The Monarchs shot their way out to a 27-22 lead after one quarter of play an never looked back, winning the following three frames 19-18, 20-15 and 23-20 for the 89-75 final tally.
KEY STAT: The Monarchs attacked the basket throughout and were rewarded with a 53.4% effort from the field (39-73). With a good portion of baskets coming in transition, the Monarchs were able to dish out 20 or more assists (21) for the fifth time this season.
Garon paced the Monarch effort with 21 points on a 9-of-15 clip overall and a 3-of-5 mark from downtown. The sophomore forward added eight rebounds and four assists in one of her best all-around games of the 2024-25 season.
Asiyah Jihad tallied 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting while corralling eight rebounds and recorded three assists and
A'Liyah Forris checked in with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals.
Janiya McWilliams rounded out the Monarchs in double-digit scoring with 10 points and hauled in eight rebounds.
Ava Prasnjak posted a career-high eight points to go along with four rebounds, while
Vanessa Galovich tallied six points and three rebounds and
Nave'yah Knott hauled in five boards to accompany a four-point effort offensively in the win.
The Monarchs return to their home hardwood Wednesday (Jan. 29) when they host Wayne County Community College at 5:30 p.m.
