WARREN – No. 6 Macomb Men's Basketball shot nearly 60% from the floor in a 96-64 rout over the Wayne County Community College District Wildcats in Warren on Wednesday (Jan. 29). Redshirt sophomore guard
Josh Hines led the way with a career-high-tying 33 points on 12-of-16 shooting (5-7 3PM) as the sixth-ranked Monarchs improved to 18-2 overall and 5-1 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings.
A 4-0 start by the Wildcats was quickly erased as the Monarchs took the lead and never looked back in the 32-point home triumph. The Monarchs led by as many as 33 and used a 54-28 advantage in points in the paint to secure the league victory.
The Monarchs led by 16 at the break (45-29) and went on to outscore the Wildcats by an equal 16-point margin in the latter stanza to earn the 32-point decision.
Hines' 33 points marked the fourth time this season the redshirt sophomore guard has tallied 30-or-more points in a contest.
DaMaryon Fishburn followed Hines in the scoring column with 15 points and added five rebounds and three assists, while
Marlon Williams posted a balanced 11 points, six rebounds and four assists and
Cameron House recorded a career-high 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
The stat-stuffing continued down the lineup as
Davion Guity tallied seven points on a 2-of-3 effort from downtown, while
Malachi Irving hauled in a team-high nine rebounds to accompany six points, four assists and a pair of blocks.
Jalen Jenkins dished out a game-high six assists and
Caron Williams followed with five of his own as the backcourt duo combined for 11 of the team's 23 assists.
Jotham Nweke returned to the lineup for his first start in several games and went on to record seven points and six rebounds in the win.
The Monarchs visit Jackson College on Saturday for a 3 p.m. MCCAA Eastern Conference tip-off.
