WARREN – No. 4 Macomb Men's Basketball concluded non-conference play with a 104-67 home win over Edison State Community College as
Jotham Nweke and
Josh Hines paced a balanced attack to lift the Monarchs to 13-1 on the season.
Leading by as many as 39 in the non-conference finale, the Monarchs earned the win behind a 53.4% shooting effort overall and an 81.8% clip from the free throw line. The Monarchs played team basketball from start-to-finish and went on to dish out a season-high 29 assists, eclipsing their previous best of 28 against Owens Community College on Dec. 18.
Nweke finished with a game-high and career-high 23 points to lead four Monarchs in double figures and received an offer from Central Michigan University following the contest. The 6-7 sophomore forward shot 50% on the afternoon and added seven rebounds and three steals in the win.
Hines was next in the scoring column with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting. The redshirt sophomore guard dished out a game-high-tying six assists and grabbed five rebounds to continue his impressive season.
Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week,
DaMaryon Fishburn, checked in with 14 points, doing so on 7-of-11 shooting, and added five assists and three rebounds, while
Caron Williams tallied an equal 14 points on a 5-of-8 effort from the floor.
Davion Guity hauled in six rebounds and finished just shy of double figures with nine points and
Marlon Williams continued to work his way back into full-time action with eight points, a team-best eight rebounds and four assists.
Lajuan Holloway posted a balanced seven points, six assists and four rebounds, while
Jalen Jenkins distributed five assists to accompany his four-point, four-rebound effort.
The Monarchs open MCCAA Eastern Conference play at home Saturday (Jan. 11) against Schoolcraft College at 3 p.m.
