Volleyball Moves Into Sole Possession of Fourth and Final Playoff Spot With Home Sweep

Monarchs cruise past Henry Ford and even their conference record at 4-4.

CLINTON TWP., Mich. – The Macomb Volleyball team handled business with a dominant 3-0 sweep over Henry Ford College on Monday (Oct. 13) at Chippewa Valley High School. With the win, the Monarchs (12-10, 4-4 MCCAA East) swept the season series over the Hawks (3-13, 1-7). The three-set victory, coupled with an Oakland Community College loss to St. Clair County Community College, also moved the Monarchs into sole possession of the fourth and final MCCAA Eastern Conference playoff spot.

The top four seeds from the Eastern Conference at the conclusion of league play earn a spot in one of the two NJCAA Great Lakes District Championships (A or B). 

It was all business for the Monarchs in the opening set as they cruised to a 25-7 victory. Set two saw the Monarchs race out to an 18-2 lead en route to a 25-14 win before the Blue & White closed the door on the match with a 25-14 victory in the third set. 

Jordan Pflaum had another solid all-around match for Macomb with 13 kills and nine digs. Brooke Baker chipped in 10 kills and nine digs and Korin Hutton tallied 33 assists and three aces. 

Alexis Cunha and Kaley Eller matched Hutton three service aces each. Cunha also recorded eight digs on the defensive end. 

The Monarchs hit .330 as a team with Baker leading the way at a .529 clip and Pflaum at .524. 

Wednesday is a bye is conference play for the Monarchs as the team will return to action Monday (Oct. 20t on the road at Schoolcraft College. First serve in Livonia is scheduled for 7 p.m.
