PORT HURON, Mich. – They keep rolling! The Macomb Volleyball team stayed hot, upsetting league-leading St. Clair County Community College in four sets on Monday (Oct. 27). With the road win, the Monarchs have won five matches in a row and are hitting their stride at the right time with the postseason on the horizon.
Macomb is now 15-10 overall and 7-4 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play following the impressive victory, while the Skippers lost for just the sixth time this season and second time in conference action.
The win, combined with other results across the league, the Monarchs remain in play for the third seed out of the MCCAA Eastern Conference. The scenario: the Monarchs will need to sweep Mott at home on Wednesday (Oct. 29) to secure the third seed out of the MCCAA East and head to the Great Lakes District A Tournament. Any result other than a sweep will send the Monarchs to the Great Lakes District B Tournament.
The Monarchs came out firing with a 25-17 set one victory before the host Skippers responded with a 25-13 win of their own in set two to even the match. Showcasing the same resolve shown on the road last week at Schoolcraft, the Monarchs refused to back down and won the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20 to claim the match.
Jordan Pflaum had another strong match for the Monarchs, tallying a team-high 13 kills to go along with 15 digs for another double-double. Kara Beeker joined Pflaum in double digit kills with 10.
Alexis Cunha recorded a team-best 24 digs, while Korin Hutton posted 33 assists. Brooke Baker had a career-high six aces in the upset and added 12 digs.
At the net, Caryss Terry continued to be a defensive force with two solo blocks and four block assists.
The Monarchs are home for the final regular season match of the year on Wednesday (Oct. 29). First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Chippewa Valley High School with a special Sophomore Night ceremony to precede the match.
