Volleyball Wraps Up Action at GRCC Raider Challenge

Monarchs drop two matches to MCCAA Western Conference foes Sunday afternoon.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Macomb Volleyball team concluded play at the GRCC Raider Challenge Sunday (Oct. 5) afternoon, dropping a pair of matches to MCCAA Western Conference foes inside GRCC's Ford Fieldhouse. With the losses, the Monarchs' record now stands at 10-9 overall. 

KVCC 3, Macomb 2 (25-20, 15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 13-15)
The Monarchs began play Sunday against the Cougars of Kalamazoo Valley Community College and dropped a hard fought five-set affair after seeing a 2-1 lead slip away. After dropping set four, the teams went point-for-point in the final stanza before the Cougars pulled away late for a 15-13 decision to win the match.

Jordan Pflaum led Macomb with 15 kills and 12 digs to post her latest double-double, while Caryss Terry registered a career-high 14 kills and hit a team-best .407. Kara Beeker and Kaley Eller added 11 kills each, while Korin Hutton had another strong match at the setter position with 43 assists and 13 digs. 

Alexis Cunha had a team-high 26 digs and Sophia Kulaga recorded 11 digs of her own to round out the individual leaders. 

Southwestern Michigan 3, Macomb 0 (18-25, 17-25, 15-25)
In the second match of the day, Macomb took on MCCAA Western Conference leader Southwestern Michigan College. The Roadrunners came away with the 3-0 sweep. 

For Macomb, Brooke Baker had eight digs and two service aces. Eller led the Monarchs offensively with six kills, while Hutton tallied 16 assists. The team's leader in digs was Cunha with eight. 

At the net, Eller had four block assists while Baker added three.

Macomb returns to MCCAA Eastern Conference play Monday (Oct. 6) with a road match at Mott Community College. First serve inside Ballenger Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
