SIDNEY, Mich. – Sophomore guard
Donald Wilburn shot 10-of-14 from the floor to record a career-high 23 points and lead No. 11 Macomb Men's Basketball to a 90-79 victory over Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday (Nov. 29) at the Montcalm Community College Shootout. Wilburn's career night paced four Monarchs in figures scoring as the Blue & White improved to 3-3 on the season.
The Monarchs shot out to a 20-6 lead behind the hot hand of Wilburn and cruised to a 55-41 halftime advantage. Grand Rapids battled back in the second half, cutting Macomb's double-digit halftime lead to one possession before the 11
th ranked Monarchs finished strong in the 11-point victory.
Wilburn had four rebounds and three steals to accompany his career-best 23 points, while
Lajuan Holloway and
Malachi Irving followed with 14 points each. Holloway added six rebounds, five steals and four assists and Irving—the reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Co-Player of the Week—added six boards.
Keithan Gilmore reached double figures scoring for the second time in as many games with 10 points and
Tabari Howard ripped down 10 rebounds to go along with six points.
Dante Wimberly accounted for eight points,
Caron Williams added seven and
Jaylon Jackson worked his way back into the lineup to post six points in the win.
The Monarchs close out their time in Sidney with a 1 p.m. matchup against the host Centurions on Sunday.
