SIDNEY, Mich. – Three in a row! Macomb Women's Basketball moved its winning streak to three games on Saturday (Nov. 29) with a 68-63 win over Cuyahoga Community College on day one of the Montcalm Community College Shootout. The Monarchs improved to 4-1 on the year with the win while the Triceratops entered the loss column for the first time in nine games this season.
The Triceratops were in control early, leading 16-15 after one quarter of play and 33-25 at the halftime break. The Monarchs responded by nearly doubling their first half offensive output in the third quarter alone, tallying 22 points to outscore the Triceratops 22-13 in the frame and take a 47-46 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
Fourth quarter action saw the Monarchs pull away and lead comfortably before settling on a 68-63 victory over the previously unbeaten Triceratops.
Four Monarch starters reached double figures with MyKenzi Harris and Asiyah Jihad registering 17 points each to lead the way. Harris added five rebounds and three steals and Jihad grabbed seven boards to go along with a game-best three blocks as the pair combined for half of the Monarchs points on the afternoon.
A'Liyah Forris tallied 12 points, swiped a game-high seven steals and added five assists and five rebounds for one of her most balanced games in a Monarch uniform. Hannah Tamou reached double digits in the scoring column for the first time at the collegiate level with 11 points. The freshman guard also hauled in a career-best eight rebounds in the win.
Janiya McWilliams tallied an equal six points, six assists and six rebounds to round out Saturday's leaders.
The Monarchs are back in action Sunday (Nov. 30) against Grand Rapids Community College. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. on the Sidney campus of Montcalm Community College.
