GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 7 seed Macomb Volleyball team suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of No. 2 seed Southwestern Michigan College on Thursday (Nov. 6), putting the Monarchs one loss away from elimination in the Great Lakes District B Tournament. 

Macomb gave the MCCAA Western Conference Champions all they could handle, taking the Roadrunners to the brink in the five-set thriller. After the Roadrunners took the first set 25-19, the Monarchs responded by winning set two 25-21. The Roadrunners won the third set 25-19 to move closer to the match victory, but the Monarchs refused to back down and won set four 25-22. Unfortunately, a back-and-forth fifth set went in favor of SMC, 15-12, halting the Monarchs upset bid in the opening round of double-elimination bracket play. 

Jordan Pflaum posted her latest big match with 19 kills and 15 digs for another double-double. Korin Hutton tallied a career-high 49 assists, setting up 14 kills out of Kara Beeker and 13 from Kaley Eller.

Brooke Baker had a huge match defensively with a career-high 25 digs, while Alexis Cunha registered 20 digs of her own and Sophia Kulaga posted 16. 

The Monarchs will look to stay alive Friday (Nov. 7) in an elimination match against No. 3 seed Cuyahoga Community College. First serve is set for 11 a.m. from GRCC's Ford Fieldhouse.
