FORT DODGE, Iowa – The No. 12 ranked Macomb Men's Cross Country team wrapped up their season at the NJCAA DII National Championships on Saturday (Nov. 8) at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
As a team, the Monarchs earned a top-10 finish for the second straight season under head coach Matt Fecht, finishing ninth out of 46 scoring teams with 359 points. The Monarchs recorded their second top 10 finish in as many seasons despite losing two key scoring pieces to their roster, including 2024 NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American and slated No. 1 runner, Dylan Penberthy, prior to the 2025 campaign starting.
With the women also earning a top 10 finish, their first since 2011, Macomb became the only school to post top 10 finishes in the men's and women's races across the MCCAA and NJCAA Region XII in NJCAA Division II.
Freshman Jacob Kosidlo finished an outstanding first season in a Monarch uniform with a 20th place finish individually, running the snow covered 8K course in 27:30.8 to earn NJCAA Second Team and NJCAA Coaches Association All-American honors.
Brandon Penberthy ran the final race of his Macomb career with a 35th place finish, crossing the line in 28:00.0, to post NJCAA Coaches Association All-American honors for the second season in a row.
Fellow sophomore Jack DeWaele placed 43rd with a time of 28:07.5 and earned NJCAA Coaches Association All-American distinction to cap off his Macomb career.
Michael Nivala Jr. closed his freshman season with a time of 29:23.2, while sophomore Mathieu Fortier concluded the scoring for the Monarchs with a 183rd place finish and time of 30:39.6.
The Monarchs will take some time off to recover before beginning the 2025-26 track & field season.
Congratulations, Monarchs, on another incredible season!
