BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The No. 9 Macomb Men's Cross Country team competed at the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University on Friday evening (Sept. 19). The Monarchs competed against a field of comprised primarily of NCAA DII and NAIA schools, finishing eighth of nine teams overall.

As a team, the shorthanded Monarchs checked in with 192 points, one point behind seventh place Hanover College (Ind.). 

Freshman Jacob Kosidlo once again led the Monarchs with a 20th place finish in the 8K race, crossing the line in 27:10.1. Fellow freshman Michael Nivala Jr. was not far behind in 22nd place with a time of 27:11.1. 

Jack DeWaele finished 55th in 28:45.2, while Mathieu Fortier and Brandon Penberthy closed the scoring in 109th and 110th place, respectively, with Fortier running 32:39.1 and Penberthy running 32:39.7. 

The Monarchs will return to action next Friday (Sept. 26) when they host the MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship at Baypoint Beach inside Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township. The men's 8K race will kick things off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at noon.
