Women's Cross Country Closes Season Strong, Finish 10th in Snowy NJCAA National Championship Race

Monarchs record top-10 finish for the first time since 2011!

FORT DODGE, Iowa – The No. 13 Macomb Women's Cross Country concluded their 2025 season Saturday (Nov. 8) at the NJCAA DII National Championships. The meet was contested at the Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with multiple inches of snow covering the course. 

Macomb finished 10th in the team standings with 385 points, marking the first time since 2011 the women's cross country program has recorded a top-10 finish at the national meet. 

With the men also earning a top 10 finish, their second in as many seasons, Macomb became the only school to post top 10 finishes in the men's and women's races across the MCCAA and NJCAA Region XII in NJCAA Division II.

Sophomore Grace Wessel led the Monarchs individually with a 18th place finish, running 19:59.2 in the 5K race to earn NJCAA Second Team All-American honors and a spot on the NJCAA Coaches Association All-American team. Fellow sophomore Emma Dell concluded her impressive Macomb career with a 29th place finish, crossing the line in 20:31.7, to join Wessel on the NJCAA Coaches Association All-American team. 

Erin Rowan finished her Macomb career with a 46th place finish and time of 21:03.4 to place a trio of Monarchs on the NJCAA Coaches Association All-American team. 

Freshman Amber Watta wrapped up her debut season with the Monarchs, finishing 130th with a time of 22:31.2, while Erin Leverenz closed the scoring for the Monarchs with a 199th place finish, running 23:56.6.

Head coach Matt Fecht and company will take a few weeks off before beginning the 2025-26 track & field season.
