No. 10 Stars Pull Away in Second Half to Defeat Monarchs

Lansing uses a big third quarter to pull away from the Monarchs and win, 78-48.

LANSING, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball battled but came up short at No. 10 Lansing Community College Wednesday (Dec. 3), falling 78-48 inside Gannon Gymnasium. The loss drops the Monarchs to 5-2 overall and snaps a four-game winning streak. 

The Stars (7-1) used their size advantage early and often and jumped out to a 14-6 lead midway through the opening quarter. The Monarchs responded and tied the game, 14-14, before the Stars took an 18-14 lead after one quarter of play.

Both teams continued to battle in the second quarter as the Stars outscored the Monarchs, 20-13, in the frame to take a 38-27 halftime lead. 

Following the break, the 10th ranked Stars once again went to their size and began to pull away, outpacing the Monarchs by a 23-11 margin in the third quarter on their way to an eventual 30-point win.

A'Liyah Forris registered a season-high 22 points for the Monarchs, going 9-of-12 at the free throw line. Reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week Asiyah Jihad chipped in 10 points and five rebounds in limited action. 

Hannah Tamou posted nine points, while Curtisey Williams pulled down a career-and-team-high six rebounds. 

As a team, the Monarchs were 15-of-47 from the field, 5-of-14 from three point range and 13-of-22 from the charity stripe. 

The Monarchs are back in action Saturday (Dec. 6) at Mid Michigan College. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. from the Morey Courts Recreation Center in Mount Pleasant.
