WARREN – Jotham Nweke buried a career-high five 3-pointers to lead five Monarchs in double figures as No. 9 Macomb Men's Basketball bounced back in a big way with a 91-66 home victory over Mott on Thursday (Feb. 13) in Warren. The win was the 20
th of the season for the nation's ninth-ranked team as the Blue & White improved to 20-4 overall and 7-3 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings.
The 7-3 league record vaulted the Monarchs back into a three-way tie with Henry Ford College and Oakland Community College with four games remaining in league play.
Mott started the game red-hot from the field, taking an early lead before the Monarchs settled in and quickly gained the advantage for good in the 25-point home triumph. After back-to-back tough shooting efforts, the Monarchs shot 55.9% from the field and an even 50% from 3-point range in a game where they led by as many as 30 points.
Nweke led all scorers with 21 points and was followed by
Josh Hines who recorded 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting while dishing out a game-high eight assists.
Caron Williams buried four second half triples to finish with 12 points, while
Marlon Williams added 10 points and three rebounds and
Lajuan Holloway returned the lineup with 10 points and four assists.
Jalen Jenkins posted a balanced seven points, four assists and four rebounds and
DaMaryon Fishburn recorded a stat-stuffing six points, nine rebounds and six assists.
The Monarchs welcome No. 19 St. Clair County Community College to Warren for a 3 p.m. tip-off Saturday afternoon.
