Fishburn’s Game-High 24 Propels MCCAA East Leading Monarchs to 87-67 Top-25 Win

The ninth-ranked Monarchs ended the night in sole possession of first place in the MCCAA Eastern Conference at 9-3 in league play (22-4 overall).

WARREN – All alone atop the MCCAA Eastern Conference! No. 9 Macomb Men's Basketball outscored the visiting and 25th ranked Owls of Oakland Community College, 47-29, in the second half to cruise to an 87-67 home victory on Wednesday (Feb. 19) in Warren. The win, combined with other results around the league, vaulted the Monarchs into sole possession of first place in the MCCAA East with two games remaining in conference play.
 
The ninth-ranked Monarchs ended the night at 22-4 overall and 9-3 atop the MCCAA East.
 
Up two at the break, 40-38, the Monarchs capitalized on their halftime adjustments to outscore the Owls by 18 points over the final 20 minutes of play and earn 20-point conference victory. The win over the No. 25 Owls marked the Monarchs ninth ranked victory of the season and their 12th over a team who has been ranked at least one week during the 2024-25 campaign.
 
The Monarchs attacked the basket throughout the evening and earned a decisive 52-32 points in the paint advantage while their 18-10 edge in offensive rebounds led to a 20-9 differential in second chance points.
 
DaMaryon Fishburn led all scorers with a career-high-tying 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added nine rebounds and four assists in the winning effort. Jotham Nweke followed with 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, while Lajuan Holloway shot 7-of-8 to post a career-high 15 points. Josh Hines rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points.
 
Marlon Williams had seven points, five rebounds, three blocks and two assists for his latest well-rounded effort and Jalen Jenkins dished out five assists.
 
The No. 9 Monarchs head to Detroit to take on a red-hot Wayne County Community College team on Saturday (Feb. 22) at 3 p.m. A win will clinch at least a share of the conference championship and will mark the first back-to-back league titles in program history.
