Men’s Basketball Clinches Back-to-Back Conference Titles for First Time in Program History

The ninth-ranked Monarchs clinched a share of the MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship with a 95-79 road win on Saturday in Detroit. The team will go for the outright title with a win at home on Tuesday.

DETROIT – Up by 15 at the break, No. 9 Macomb Men's Basketball led by as many as 24 in a 95-79 road victory at Wayne County Community College District on Saturday (Feb. 22). The win clinched at least a share of the MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship and marked the first time the Monarchs won back-to-back league titles in program history.

The Monarchs will aim to win the conference outright with a Sophomore Night victory over Jackson College on Tuesday (Feb. 25). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. with Sophomore Night festivities taking place just before the game.

The win also secured the No. 1 seed in the MCCAA Eastern Conference as the Monarchs own any potential tiebreaker that could come into play. With the No. 1 seed, the Monarchs will head to Great Lakes District C and receive a bye into the semifinals against the No. 3 seed from the OCCAC (team TBD). The game against the OCCAC No. 3 seed will take place on March 6 at 11 a.m. at Mott Community College. A win there would result in a trip to the Great Lakes District C Championship Game on March 8 at 11 a.m., also played at Mott.

Prior to the Great Lakes District Tournament, the Monarchs will represent the Eastern Conference at the 2025 MCCAA Men's Basketball Championship. The three conference championship representatives (Macomb, Mid Michigan and the host, Kalamazoo Valley) will compete for the MCCAA Championship Feb. 28 and March 1 in Kalamazoo. This year's host, the Western Conference Champion KVCC Cougars, receive a bye into the title game on March 1 at 3 p.m. Macomb will take on Northern Conference Champion, Mid Michigan, on Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. at KVCC.

The MCCAA Championship is not part of the NJCAA/Great Lakes District Postseason and is considered part of the regular season schedule.
