Baseball Splits at Cuyahoga, Heads to Tennessee Next After Cold Weather Nips Remaining Ohio Games

The Monarchs are slated to hit the diamond next on Tuesday (March 4) for the first two of a four-game set at NJCAA Division I Roane State.

PARMA, OH – Macomb Baseball kicked off the second leg of their spring trip in Parma, Ohio, against a fellow NJCAA Region 12 playoff team from a season ago, the Triceratops of Cuyahoga Community College.

The Monarchs won the opener behind a balanced attack that was highlighted offensively by Vincent Cowdrey belting a 3-run home run and Ryan McKay going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Johnathan Meyette picked up his first collegiate win in relief to move to 1-1 on the young season, while Jack Saputo made it 2-for-2 in save opportunities in 2025 to close the door on an 8-5 win in the opener.

Luke Babcock went 2-for-2 with a double to continue his hot start to the 2025 season, Nathan Fidelino was 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI and run scored and Matt Hanneman doubled to go 1-for-2 with a walk.

In what was a back-and-forth opener, the Monarchs trailed by one entering the seventh inning and plated four to turn a 5-4 deficit into an 8-5 lead and eventual win.

In game two, Nicholas Sandiha Jr. stole the show with a 3-for-4 performance that included a home run, double and two runs scored. Aidan Miller went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI and McKay continue to warm up at the dish with another double to cap off a solid day in Ohio.

The Monarchs entered the seventh and final inning with a 6-5 lead but were unlucky in the end and settled for the split after a 7-6 loss.

After frigid temperatures negated the remainder of the Cuyahoga series, the Monarchs now turn their attention to a four-game set at NJCAA Division I Roane State (Tenn.) beginning Tuesday at 12 p.m.
