PORT HURON – Sanborn Park was an electric factory on Wednesday (March 19) as Macomb Baseball powered up to belt a program record 10 home runs in a 23-3 run-rule victory. The five-inning victory extended the Monarchs winning streak to nine games and lifted the team's record to 11-6 overall and 2-0 in MCCAA East play.
The Monarchs jumped on top 5-0 early and never looked back as
Vincent Cowdrey paced the offensive charge by going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and driving in five runs via three home runs and a double. The trio of big blasts lifted Cowdrey's home run total to nine on the season.
Nicholas Sandiha Jr. followed Cowdrey by driving in four runs while going 3-for-5 and connecting on his third home run of the campaign, while
Matt Hanneman also hit his third long ball of the season to finish 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.
Five other Monarchs joined the home run derby by clearing the fence for the first time this season with four hitting their first collegiate home run.
Dane Richards hit his first of the 2025 season, while the group of
Riley Ames,
Dominic Cavacini,
Buster Debol and
Aidan Miller connected on a round-tripper for the first time at the collegiate level.
Ames went 1-for-2 with two RBI, Cavacini made the most of his only at-bat with a two-run shot, Miller was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and Debol finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Adrian Epps hit a double in his lone plate appearance and stole two bases in the 20-run victory.
The 23 runs scored by the Monarchs tied for the third most tallied in a game in program history while the 20-run margin of victory tied for the fourth best all-time.
On the mound,
Matt Dickinson got the start and earned his first collegiate win.
The 2025 home opener is scheduled for Saturday as the Monarchs are set to host Henry Ford College for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
