MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Macomb Baseball's spring trip ended Saturday (March 8) with another sweep as an offensive explosion in game one led to a 13-4 win over Ocean County before the pitchers stole the show in game two for a 4-2 victory over Northampton.
With Friday's wins, the Monarchs move to 7-6 overall and head back to Michigan owners of a five-game winning streak.
GAME ONE - Macomb 13, Ocean County 4
Dane Richards paced the Monarch bats in the opener with a 3-for-4 performance that saw the sophomore outfielder finish a home run shy of the cycle.
Matt Hanneman, one of six Monarchs to double in the nine-run game one win, went 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Buster Debol doubled as part of a 2-for-4 effort with an RBI.
Ryan McKay drove in a team-best three runs via a two-RBI double and a sac fly.
Evan Robinson got the start and secured his first collegiate win after punching out five and only allowing one earned run in four innings on the hill.
GAME TWO - Macomb 4, DIII #5 Northampton 2
Game two belonged largely to the pitchers as
Derick Garcia picked up his first win as a Monarch after fanning eight batters while scattering two hits in four innings of work.
Nathan Fidelino worked two clean innings and struck out a pair before giving way to
Jack Saputo who notched his third save of the season.
Hanneman, McKay,
Luke Babcock and
Aidan Miller all doubled in the 4-2 win and
Vincent Cowdrey hit his fifth home run of the campaign to highlight the offensive output.
