Baseball Extends Winning Streak to Eight Games, Sweeps Pivotal Weekend Series With Schooclraft

Eight wins in a row!

WARREN – Eight in a row! Macomb Baseball completed the weekend sweep over Schoolcraft College with a 10-6 victory in game one and a 6-1 win in the series finale. The wins extended the Monarchs' winning streak to eight games overall and resulted in a 4-1 record over the Ocelots this season.

The Monarchs ended the day at 23-13 overall and 11-6 in an ultra-competitive MCCAA Eastern Conference race.

GAME ONE: Macomb 10, Schoolcraft 6
The Monarchs trailed by two runs on a pair of occasions early before pushing ahead for good behind a three-run third inning. Nathan Fidelino put together a great two-way performance as the game one starter, struck out five in four-plus innings, and got the scoring started in the third inning with a 2-RBI triple to the deepest part of the park.

The Fidelino triple tied the game, 4-4, and a Matt Hanneman sacrifice fly brought in the third run of the third frame to give the Monarchs a lead they would never surrender.

Luke Babcock gave the Monarchs cushion one inning later on a double down the right field line that plated Nicholas Sandiha Jr. and Fidelino brought in Riley Ames to give the Blue & White a 7-4 lead.

Buster Debol connected on a RBI single in the fifth to make it 8-4 while Sandiha drove home the final two runs for the Monarchs on a 2-RBI single up the middle later in the inning.

Fidelino went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs while also moving to 3-0 on the season after punching out five in just over four innings of work. Sandiha finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Debol was 2-for-4 with one run driven in, and Babcock checked in at 1-for-3 thanks to his RBI double.

Brendan Przybycki once again worked important middle innings for the Monarchs, striking out three while only allowing one hit in just under two innings on the mound.

GAME TWO: Macomb 6, Schoolcraft 1
Matt Dickinson cruised through six innings of four-hit, seven-strikeout ball to earn his third win of the season and the Monarchs came up with timely hits throughout in a 6-1 game two victory. With Dickinson dialed in, the Monarchs didn't need much offensively, but continued to tack on runs with two-out hits to secure the weekend series sweep.

The Monarchs went ahead 1-0 in the third on a Dominic Cavacini RBI single to right field and made it 2-0 one inning later when Adrian Epps singled to right to drive home Riley Ames.

Nicholas Sandiha Jr. RBI single in the fifth started a four-run frame, and a Luke Babcock 2-RBI base knock back up the middle extended the Monarchs' lead to 5-0 before Epps closed out the big inning with a RBI single for the sixth and final run of the game.

Babcock, Epps and Sandiha led the Monarchs with two hits each. Joseph Lulgjuraj came on in the seventh and fanned two batters for a clean inning to finish the series.

UP NEXT: Non-Conference Twin Bill at No. 15 Lansing
The Monarchs visit No. 15 Lansing Community College Tuesday (April 22) for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
