Monarchs Earn Road Split With No. 12 Lansing, Return to MCCAA East Play Thursday at SC4

The Monarchs moved to 24-14 on the year and earned their third ranked win of the season with a 11-0 victory in game two.

LANSING – Macomb Baseball earned its third ranked win of the season and improved to 24-14 overall with a road non-conference split at No. 12 Lansing Community College on Tuesday (April 22). The Monarchs gave up 10 runs in the first inning of game one in a 17-2 loss before bouncing back to win game two by an 11-0 final.

The Monarchs return to MCCAA Eastern Conference play Thursday at Sanborn Park in Port Huron for a doubleheader against St. Clair County Community College. First pitch for game one is set for 2 p.m.

With only eight games remaining in league play, the Monarchs enter the penultimate conference series in a second place tie with Mott, one game back of Henry Ford.

The top two teams from the conference qualify for the NJCAA Region XII Division II Tournament. Opening round action pits the conference winners (1-4 seeds) against the second place team from each conference (5-8 seeds). Seeds are determined by final Massey Ratings and the four conferences comprise of the MCCAA's Eastern, Northern and Western conferences and the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).

As for Tuesday's non-conference twin bill, the Monarchs got off to a rough start as miscues led to an early 10-0 deficit in a 17-2 setback.

In game two, the Monarchs responded in a big way to post an 11-0 victory behind the right arm of freshman Johnathan Meyette who tossed a complete-game shutout. Meyette worked all seven innings on the hill and scattered four hits while striking out four in the 11-run victory. The win was Meyette's third of the campaign.

Nathan Fidelino hit his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left center in the third inning, to highlight a 3-for-4 game with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Dane Richards went 3-for-3 while driving in a run and coming around to score twice, while Buster Debol went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and Dominic Cavacini posted a 2-for-5 outing with an RBI and run scored.

Luke Babcock was 1-for-3 with a run driven in via sacrifice fly and Riley Ames checked in at 1-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
