Monarchs Post 29 Runs in Saturday Sweep, Keep Pace atop MCCAA East

Five home runs were hit on a day where the Monarchs recorded 29 runs.

WARREN – A 17-1 game one win in five innings and a 12-3 victory in game two propelled Macomb Baseball to a season sweep over the SC4 Skippers in Warren on Saturday (April 26). With the wins, the Monarchs improved to 28-14 overall and 15-6 in the MCCAA East. The 15-6 league record saw the Monarchs end the day in a first-place tie with Henry Ford. Mott is one game back at 14-7.

The top two teams from the MCCAA East qualify for the Region XII Tournament. If any ties exist following the final four-game series in the week ahead, Macomb holds the tiebreaker over Mott, while Henry Ford holds the tiebreaker edge over Macomb.

GAME ONE: Macomb 17, SC4 1 (5 inn.)
Buster Debol hit an inside-the-park home run on a blast to center that would've left most parks and Ryan McKay launched his first ball over the fence this season to spark a 17-1 five-inning victory in game one. Nathan Fidelino held the Skippers to one hit across four innings of work to move to 4-0 on the season before giving way to Bryson Roberts in the fifth.

Aidan Miller drove in a game-high and career-high four runs thanks in large part to a bases-clearing double. Adrian Epps and Debol also doubled and led the Monarchs—along with McKay—with two hits each.

McKay and Dane Richards followed Miller in the RBI department with three each, while Debol and Luke Babcock each drove in a pair of runs.

GAME TWO: Macomb 12, SC4 3
Luke Babcock connected on his fourth home run of the campaign and doubled to go 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Matt Hanneman cleared Martin Road for home run No. 6 of the season and Ryan McKay hit his second big blast of the day in the 12-3 victory.

Matt Dickinson got the start and win after striking out seven in four innings to shift to 4-1 on the season and Brendan Przybycki struck out three in two solid innings on the mound.

Babcock, Hanneman and Vincent Cowdrey paced a nine-hit attack with two hits each on a day where the Monarchs scored in all 12 innings played.
