WEST BLOOMFIELD – Two days after winning the season series over Mott, Macomb Baseball couldn't get the bats going in a pair of losses to shift to 5-4 in conference play and 15-11 overall. The 5-4 record in the MCCAA East positions the Monarchs in a tie for third place with Mott, one game back of second place Schoolcraft and three behind Henry Ford.
Vincent Cowdrey had two of the Monarchs' three hits in game one and
Matt Hanneman supplied the other, while
Aidan Miller and
Nicholas Sandiha Jr. each hit a sacrifice fly to account for the two runs scored.
Derek Neufeld got the game one start and performed well as the sophomore scattered five hits and allowed three earned while going the distance.
Cowdrey led the way once again in game two, going 2-for-3 at the plae with an RBI double.
Dominic Cavacini also had an RBI double as part of a 1-for-3 game, while Hanneman and
Nathan Fidelino drove in a run each.
Aidan Manzella continued to work his way back into a prominent role and struck out two across 1 1/3 innings in game two.
The Monarchs begin a four-game set against Henry Ford at home on Thursday. The doubleheader is set for a 2 p.m. first pitch in Warren. The series is slated to wrap up on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at The Corner Ballpark in Detroit.
