DETROIT, Mich. – Caron Williams poured in a career-high 26 points and Keithan Gilmore tallied a career-best 19 of his own to help lead Macomb Men's Basketball to an 88-68 home victory over Mott Community College on Saturday (Jan. 17) at the Wayne State University Matthaei Center.
The 20-point win evened the Monarchs' record at 9-9 overall and lifted the Blue & White to 2-1 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. The visiting Bears fell to 7-9 overall and 0-2 in league play with the road setback.
Leading 41-37 at the break after a back-and-forth opening half, the Monarchs were able to pull away immediately in the latter stanza and lead by as many as 22 in the 20-point victory.
While the Bears kept it close for the opening 20 minutes, the visitors last and only lead of the game came via a 4-2 margin at the 18:08 mark of the first half.
For the second time in as many games, the Monarchs out-rebounded the opposition by a decisive margin, this time owning a 44-24 edge on the glass in the 20-point triumph
Williams wrapped his day with a career-high 26 points and six rebounds. Gilmore added to his career-high 19 points with five boards and three assists, while Joey Angok rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Tabari Howard dished out a career-high 11 assists, pulled down eight rebounds and added six points for his latest stat-stuffing effort.
Malachi Irving finished with nine points, Brighton Birangui-Booto added five, while Daniel Sotero-Martinez and Simon Stockwell tallied four points each.
Howard's career-best 11 assists paced a 23-assist effort for the Monarchs.
The Monarchs shot 37-of-69 from the field overall and 7-of-16 from behind the arc in the hard-fought league win.
The Monarchs are back in action Wednesday (Jan. 17) night against St. Clair County Community College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. following the women's contest between the Skippers and Monarchs inside Wayne State's Matthaei Center in Detroit.
