Harris, Tamou Post Career Days to Help Lead Monarchs Past Owls, 110-88

The Monarchs poured in a season-best 110 points in the home victory.

DETROIT, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball posted their best offensive output of the season on Saturday (Jan. 24) in a 110-88 victory over the visiting Owls of Oakland Community College at the Matthaei Center in Detroit. 

With the win, the Monarchs moved to 14-6 overall and 3-2 in MCCAA East action and reached the century mark for the second time this season. The Owls fell to 4-14 overall and 1-4 in conference play. 

The offense was firing on all cylinders early and often in the Motor City as the Monarchs took at 27-22 lead after one and a 56-43 advantage into the halftime locker room.

After the half, it was the Owls who took control briefly, outscoring the Monarchs by a narrow 26-24 margin in the third quarter. The Monarchs regained control as soon as the fourth quarter started and went on to outscore the Owls, 30-19, over the final 10:00 to earn the 110-88 victory.

Hannah Tamou had the best game of her career Saturday afternoon, pouring in 26 points and grabbing eight rebounds. MyKenzi Harris also enjoyed a career day with 25 points and eight boards.

Asiyah Jihad had another double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds, while A'Liyah Forris registered 14 points, five assists and three rebounds.

Janiya McWilliams narrowly missed a triple-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. The nine assists was a new career-high for the sophomore out of Warren Fitzgerald High School. 

Ruby Sandison just missed her career-high in points scored, posting 10.

As a team, the Monarchs were 38-of-80 from the field, 6-of-20 from 3-point range and 28-of-38 from the charity stripe. The Monarchs dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Owls by a commanding 60-38 margin. 

The Monarchs return to action Wednesday (Jan. 28) at Wayne County Community College District. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from the Curtis L. Ivery Recreation Center.
