DETROIT, Mich. – The winning streak was halted at four games for Macomb Men's Basketball as the Monarchs struggled to find a rhythm offensively in a 77-71 road setback at Wayne County Community College District on Wednesday (Jan. 28). The loss sends the Monarchs to 11-10 overall and 4-2 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play.
The Wildcats improved to 2-3 in league action with the win.
Trailing by 11 in the opening half, the Monarchs battled back to take a narrow 37-36 lead at the half. The lead was short-lived as the Wildcats once again built a double-digit lead in the latter stanza.
The Monarchs didn't go quietly and cut the Wildcat lead to two in the final two minutes, but the shots wouldn't fall late in the six point decision.
Malachi Irving led the Monarchs with 17 points off the bench while
Caron Williams added 14 and
Jaylon Jackson tallied 13 to go along with a team-high five assists. Irving and
Joey Angok paced the Monarchs on the glass with seven rebounds each.
The Monarchs return to their temporary home of Wayne State University's Matthaei Center on Saturday to host Jackson College at 3 p.m.
