LANSING, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball opened their season on the road at No. 12 Lansing Community College Friday (Oct. 30) night in the state's capital. The host Stars pulled away in the fourth quarter for an 88-63 victory. 

A back-and-forth first quarter saw the hosts jump out to a 17-13 lead through 10 minutes of play. The Stars' offense found its rhythm in the second period as they out-scored the Monarchs 24-14 to take a 41-27 lead into the halftime locker room. 

The Navy and White battled back in third, out-pacing the Stars in the frame by a 24-21 margin. Despite cutting into the deficit, the Monarchs entered the fourth trailing by double digits, 62-51. 

Fourth quarter action saw the Stars pull away behind 26 points over the final 10 minutes of play to earn the win.

The Monarchs (0-1) were led by freshman Sami Thomas with 19 points and three rebounds in her debut for the Navy and White. Sophomore MyKenzi Harris added 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while fellow sophomore Hannah Tamou battled through a preseason setback to post nine points and five rebounds. 

Zaena Thacker had a solid debut for the Monarchs, recording seven points and grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds. Claire O'Brien tallied seven points and five boards in her Macomb debut.

The Monarchs shot 19-of-64 from the field, 4-of-20 from beyond the arc and 21-of-29 at the free throw line in the opener. The Stars out-rebounded the Monarchs, 51-42. 

The Monarchs are back in action Saturday (Oct. 31) for day two of the LCC Stars Tipoff Classic. A matchup with Cuyahoga Community College awaits at 1 p.m. at Lansing's Gannon Gymnasium.
