PORT HURON, Mich. – Macomb Women's Basketball saw its late rally fall short in a 74-64 road setback to No. 23 St. Clair County Community college on Saturday (Feb. 14) in Port Huron.
The Monarchs drop to 18-8 overall and 7-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference following the 10-point setback. The host Skippers improved to 19-7 overall and 10-1 in league play with the victory.
The difference in Saturday's contest came on the boards as the Skippers owned a decisive 53-26 advantage in rebounds, including a 26-11 edge on the offensive glass. The 26 offensive rebounds turned into a 21-7 second chance points edge for the Skippers, more than enough to cover the 10-point margin at the final buzzer.
Despite giving up plenty of size and depth, the Monarchs battled throughout and cut the deficit to four in the fourth quarter before the Skippers closed the game on an 18-12 burst.
Hannah Tamou led the Monarchs offensively with 19 points and added seven rebounds.
A'Liyah Forris and
Janiya McWilliams chipped in with 12 points each, while
MyKenzi Harris tallied nine points, five assists and three steals.
The Monarchs head to Auburn Hills on Wednesday (Feb. 18) to take on Oakland Community College at 5:30 p.m.
