Monarchs Fall to No. 2 Schoolcraft in Detroit

A'Liyah Forris recorded a game-high 22 points in the 94-74 setback to the unbeaten Ocelots.

DETROIT, Mich. – The Macomb Women's Basketball team opened the second half of MCCAA Eastern Conference play Wednesday (Feb. 4), falling 94-74 to No. 2 Schoolcraft College at Wayne State University's Matthaei Center in Detroit. 

The loss dropped the Monarchs to 16-7 overall and 5-3 in league play while the visiting Ocelots remained undefeated at 22-0 overall and 8-0 in conference action. 

A hotly-contested first quarter ended with the Ocelots ahead by seven, 22-15. The Monarchs once again went toe-to-toe with the unbeaten Ocelots in the second frame as the visitors edged the Blue & White, 23-21, to take a 45-36 lead at the half. 

Second half action saw the Ocelots' depth and size take over as the nation's second ranked team pulled away late for the 20-point victory.

A'Liyah Forris led the Monarchs with a game-high 22 points, four assists and four steals. Hannah Tamou netted 15 points and grabbed three rebounds, while MyKenzi Harris, Janiya McWilliams and Curtisey Williams tallied nine points each. Ruby Sandison followed with eight points and Harris dished out a team-best six assists. 

Down two key front court players, the Monarchs were outscored in the paint, 68-32, and dropped the rebounding battle, 39-20.

Offensively, the Monarchs shot 26-of-56 from the field, 6-of-19 from deep and 16-of-20 at the free throw line. 

The Monarchs remain home Saturday (Feb. 7) against Henry Ford College. Tip-off from the Matthaei Center is set for 1 p.m.
