DETROIT, Mich. – Macomb Men's Basketball was in control from the opening tip in a 91-63 victory over Henry Ford College on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Wayne State's Matthaei Center in Detroit. The Monarchs never trailed for the second time in as many games against the Hawks this season to improve to 14-10 overall and 7-2 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference.
The victory vaulted the Monarchs to a 6-0 record at their temporary 2025-26 home at the Matthaei Center.
The Hawks, a team receiving votes in the latest national poll, fell to 13-7 overall and 6-3 in league play with the 28-point setback.
An early 8-0 lead turned into a 46-19 advantage late in the opening half as the Monarchs cruised to their largest margin of victory over the quality Hawks program in over 15 years. The Monarchs led 49-28 at the break and outscored the Hawks 42-35 in the second half to earn the decisive victory.
Donald Wilburn led the Monarchs with a game-high 17 points. The sophomore transfer guard added six rebounds and two steals in 25 efficient minutes while
Joey Angok tallied 14 points in 17 minutes and
Caron Williams posted 13 points in 28 minutes of play.
Dante Wimberly rounded out the Monarchs in double figures scoring with 11 points in 13 minutes of action.
Tabari Howard corralled a team-high eight rebounds and scored eight points,
Keithan Gilmore recorded seven points and seven rebounds and
Simon Stockwell checked in with six points and six rebounds.
Malachi Irving posted a balanced eight points, six rebounds and three assists in the winning effort.
The Monarchs won the battle of the boards by a 45-27 margin, including a 12-6 edge on the offensive glass that led to a 21-6 advantage in second chance points.
Defensively, the Monarchs were dominant once again, holding a high-octane Hawks team to 37.7% shooting, including a 13.0% clip from 3-point land.
The Monarchs visit the always-tough Ballenger Fieldhouse on Wednesday (Feb. 11) to take on Mott Community College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. in Flint.
