Baseball Opens Conference Play With 11-1 Victory Over SC4

The Monarchs plated seven in the bottom of the sixth to earn the run rule victory.

UTICA, Mich. – Macomb Baseball opened MCCAA Eastern Conference play with an 11-1 run-rule victory in six innings over St. Clair County Community College on Thursday (March 19) at UWM Field in Utica.

The Monarchs broke the game open with a seven-run bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by a Lochlan Stoudt three-run home run and a walk-off RBI single by Zackary Grinde

Macomb advanced their record to 7-10 overall and started MCCAA East play at 1-0 in the first of five 9-inning tilts to begin the league slate.

Grinde's walk-off single capped a 3-for-4 day with three RBIs. Marwynn Matthews Jr and Buster Debol each doubled as part of 2-for-4 days with a run driven in, while Evan Morrison went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Stoudt's home run was his team-leading fourth of the season.

Brendan Przybycki earned his first win of the year on the mound after pounding the zone to the tune of five strikeouts across six quality innings. Przybycki allowed a run in the second and settled in from there as the Monarch bats took over in the run-rule affair.

The Monarchs return to UWM Field tomorrow (March 20) against Mott Community College for a 9-inning contest. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. with live stream coverage (no play-by-play) available on MacombMonarchs.com/Watch.
