Baseball Earns Non-Conference Sweep, Returns to MCCAA East Play Thursday

Monarchs win game one 15-5 before earning 3-0 victory in the nightcap.

ADRIAN, Mich. – Macomb Baseball hit the road Tuesday (March 24) to take on the Adrian College Development Team in a doubleheader at Nicolay Field. The Monarchs won game one, 15-5, before earning a 3-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.

With the wins, Macomb's record is now 11-10 overall.

GAME ONE: Macomb 15, Adrian 5
After going ahead 2-0 in the third, the Monarchs would break the game wide open with a six-run fourth to take an 8-0 lead on their way to an eventual 15-5 victory.

Lochlan Stoudt led the Monarchs with a four-RBI opener, sparked by the redshirt freshman's fifth home run of the season. Stoudt's home run was of the three-run variety in the top of the fourth and would stand as the game-winning hit.

Norberick Garcia tripled to right field in back-to-back plate appearances as part of a 2-for-5 day with two RBIs, while reigning MCCAA Eastern Conference Player of the Week, Zackary Grinde, went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Marwynn Matthews Jr continued his strong play by going 2-for-3 with an RBI, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks.

Vito Zito drove in a pair of runs while going 1-for-3 with two walks and Ryan Sommer notched a 2-for-3 day with an RBI and a pair of walks.

A bullpen game for the pitching staff resulted in four hurlers seeing action. Kaiden Pollock opened the game for the Monarchs and had a solid outing, striking out six and not allowing a run in three innings of work. Connor Hayden recorded a strikeout in his inning of work before giving way to Jacob Turner who punched out three in two innings on the mound. Nicholas Stempnik closed out the 10-run victory with an efficient seventh inning where he fanned two.

GAME TWO: Macomb 3, Adrian 0
Following a 15-run eruption in game one, Macomb's pitching stole the show in the nightcap, led by starter Connor Dwyer earning his first collegiate win after posting a scoreless outing while striking out five batters.

Taylor Falls and Jacob Macks registered two strikeouts each as both got an inning of work, while Nick Riebschleger had three strikeouts in his lone inning on the hill. Drew Dutkiewicz came on in the seventh to strike out one while earning his first collegiate save.

In all, 'Johnny Wholestaff' recorded 13 strikeouts in game two while scattering four hits in an efficient five-pitcher showing.

Offensively, Aidan Miller and Cameron Simms doubled, while Evan Morrison drove in a pair of runs to pace the team in the 3-0 victory. Koltin Krstich led the team in hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
