Winning Streak Hits Nine as Monarchs Sweep NJCAA Region 12 Counterpart Cuyahoga

The Monarchs won game one, 12-6, before taking the nightcap by a 6-5 final tally.

WARREN, Mich. – The Monarchs continue to roll! Macomb Baseball hosted OCCAC power Cuyahoga Community College in a NJCAA Region 12 doubleheader on Monday (March 30) in Warren and extended their winning streak to nine games with a sweep behind a 12-6 game one win and a 6-5 victory in game two. With the victories, the Monarchs move to 15-10 overall ahead of the resumption of MCCAA Eastern Conference play this week.

The Triceratops, a program that finished 2025 at 44-8 overall and ended the Monarchs' season in the NJCAA Region 12 playoffs, fall to 11-10 overall after the pair of defeats.

GAME ONE: Macomb 12, Cuyahoga 6
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Monarchs erupted for a six-run frame to pull in front and take the lead for good in the 12-6 decision. The Monarchs plated five more in the sixth for good measure and held off a seventh inning burst by the Triceratops to move to 14-10 overall.

Lochlan Stoudt capped off the thrilling six-run fourth inning with a 3-run home run, giving the Monarchs a 7-4 lead they wouldn't relinquish. The 3-run blast was Stoudt's team-leading sixth home run of the season and was part of a 4-RBI opener for the Clarkston product.

Buster Debol was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, a walk and a run scored, and Marwynn Matthews Jr remained hot as he went 2-for-2 with an RBI, two walks, a stolen base and three runs scored. Aidan Miller went 1-for-3 with an RBI while Dominic Cavacini also recorded an RBI.

Nick Riebschleger earned the win in relief, his first collegiate victory, after pitching 2.1 innings and striking out four. Connor Hayden struck out three in two innings and Aidan Manzella finished the game off by striking out three in the top of the seventh inning.

GAME TWO: Macomb 6, Cuyahoga 5
The Monarchs struck first in a back-and-forth affair, plating a run each in the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The Triceratops evened the game with a two-run third before Miller put the Monarchs ahead by two, 4-2, in the fifth with a solo blast over the wall in left center. The home run was Miller's third of the campaign.

After the Monarchs went in front by three, 5-2, later in the fifth, the Triceratops responded with three runs of their own in the top of the sixth to once again pull even.

Timely hitting and a Triceratops error allowed the Monarchs to inch in front, 6-5, before Jacob Turner closed the door by striking out four of the seven batters he faced over 1.2 innings pitched to post his first collegiate win.

Grinde had a team-leading three hits in the nightcap (3-for-4), while Miller was 2-for-4. Vito Zito continued to impress with a pair of doubles down the right field line as part of a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored, while Brett Leonard went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Debol went 1-for-2 with two walks and a pair of runs scored.

Taylor Falls got the start on the mound for the Monarchs and struck out five in four innings of work.
