SANDUSKY, Ohio – Macomb Baseball traveled to Sandusky, Ohio, for a non-conference doubleheader against the NJCAA Division III No. 15 Titans of Terra State Community College on Tuesday (April 21) and came away with a pair of victories to improve to 26-15 overall.
The Monarchs won game one, 6-4, before taking the nightcap by a 12-9 tally.
GAME ONE: Macomb 6, Terra State 4
The Monarchs fell behind 2-0 through three before eventually plating six unanswered runs, highlighted by a three-run sixth inning, to take a 6-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Terra State would get two across in the home half, but the Monarchs would close the door to secure the 6-4 victory.
Kaiden Pollock got the ball in game one and put on a dominant display. The freshman right-handed pitcher struck out 10 batters, only allowed four hits and did not surrender an earned run across five strong innings of work. With the victory, Pollock improved to 4-2 on the season, tying
Greg Burns and
Brendan Przybycki with a team-leading four wins.
Aidan Manzella came on in the sixth to earn the six-out save, his fourth of the season.
Brett Leonard provided timely hitting for the Monarchs, including a double and the go-ahead, two-RBI single in the sixth inning. The freshman infielder/outfielder was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks in the opener.
Lochlan Stoudt got the scoring started for the Monarchs in the fourth inning and did so in a big way with his team-leading ninth home run of the campaign.
GAME TWO: Macomb 12, Terra State 9
Game two belonged to
Aidan Miller as the sophomore third baseman belted three home runs to help propel the Monarchs to the 12-9 victory. Now with eight long balls on the season, Miller blasted his first of three home runs in the first inning, igniting a 3-for-3 game with five RBIs and a walk.
With the trio of big blasts, Miller joined
Vincent Cowdrey as recent Monarchs to record three home runs in a game. Cowdrey—the Monarchs all-time home run leader—hit three in a 23-3 road win at SC4 on March 19, 2025.
Before Miller got his career game underway, Leonard got game two started with a solo home run. Following a strong opener, Leonard finished Tuesday's latter contest with three RBIs as part of a 2-for-4 effort that included his second home run of the season.
Vito Zito also homered for the Monarchs, his fifth of the season, as the freshman went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Austin Thorpe got the start in center field and went on to post a 3-for-4 game two with a double and two RBIs.
On the mound,
Connor Dwyer came on in the middle innings to toss two frames of three-strikeout ball to move to 2-0 on the season.
Nicholas Stempnik closed game two with three emphatic punch outs to earn his first career save.
