ROCKFORD, Ill. — Macomb Volleyball wrapped up play at the 2026 Opening Weekend Tournament (OWT) with a pair of losses on Sunday (Aug. 23). The two setbacks shifted the team's record on the young season to 1-5.
MATCH ONE: Kankakee 3, Macomb 1 (20-25, 17-25, 25-23, 16-25)
The first of two morning matches went in favor of the opposition as the Kankakee Cavaliers used an early 2-0 edge to post a four-set victory.
Despite the 2-0 hole, the Monarchs were resilient and came back to earn a 25-23 win in set three. In set four, bad breaks would result in a sizable early deficit before the Blue and White mounted a spirited rally that featured six straight points with Gisela Hanna serving.
Brooke Baker led the Monarchs at the net with nine kills, followed by Ava Hunt and Rachel Westendorp with seven each. Westendorp also recorded a team-best two blocks in Sunday's opener.
Korin Hutton added her latest career double-double with 18 assists and 16 digs, while Delaney Heflin added 15 digs and Baker finished with 14.
MATCH TWO: Black Hawk 3, Macomb 0 (17-25, 9-25, 15-25)
Black Hawk College avenged last year's 3-0 loss to the Monarchs with a sweep of their own as the Blue and White concluded OWT play with a 1-5 record.
Hunt and Baker paced the Monarchs in kills with nine and eight, respectively, while three players reached double digits in digs: Heflin (14), Baker (10) and Hunt (10).
