PORT HURON, Mich. – Macomb Volleyball hit the road for the first time in MCCAA East play on Wednesday (Sept. 16) and suffered their first league loss of the season with a 3-0 setback to the host Skippers of St. Clair County Community College Skippers.
The loss, coming via set scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-18, drops the Monarchs to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in MCCAA East action. The Skippers moved to 11-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play with the home victory.
Port Huron native
Ava Hunt and
Brooke Baker led the Macomb attack with nine kills each, while
Madison Martin posted an ultra-efficient night with six kills on 13 swings with no errors.
Korin Hutton posted 26 assists on Macomb's 30 kills.
Baker, Hutton and
Delaney Heflin anchored the defensive effort with 12 digs each, while
Rachel Westendorp accounted for the Monarchs' lone solo block.
The Monarchs return home for a pair of matches inside The Den next week, the first coming on Monday opposite Jackson College at 7 p.m. A home match against Schoolcraft College is next on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
