Hey and Stermer recorded season-best times Friday at Freedom Hill

RESULTS // HIGHLIGHTS // COACH FECHT INTERVIEW

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. –
Macomb Cross Country competed in its third race in as many weeks Friday (Sept. 30) at the Oakland Community College Invitational held at nearby Freedom Hill County Park. The Monarchs posted another quality outing with a sixth place team finish thanks to a new PR by Brandon Ung (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) and season bests by Jack Hey (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) and Cameron Stermer (Macomb, Mich./Dakota).

In the midst of their highest mileage in training, the Monarchs impressed once again Friday under the guidance of first year head coach Matt Fecht. With a PR and a pair of season bests, the Monarchs were able to take home a team score of 184 in the talented field at Friday's conference invitational.

Stermer led all Monarchs with a time of 29:22, a new season best for the standout sophomore. The 29:22 was 23 seconds shy of Stermer's collegiate PR pace of 28:59 and was good for 29th place in a field of 75-plus runners. Hey also clocked a season-best after he cruised in at 29:58 to earn a 32nd place finish overall.

Ung was next and put together an outstanding performance after earning a new PR with a time of 30:17 in Friday's 8K race. The former Dakota product finished two spots behind Hey at 34th overall and shattered his previous PR of 31:09 set last week at the Firebird Invite.

Jacob Kimball (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lake Shore) battled his way to a 43rd place finish and a time of 30:55, while Andrew Young (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley) narrowly missed out on a PR after crossing the finish line at 31:10 in 46th place. Thomas Flowers (Detroit, Mich./Fraser) finished 52nd at 32:59 to wrap up the Monarchs' day in Sterling Heights Friday afternoon.

Up Next: The Monarchs travel to Ohio to take part in Bowling Green State University's Falcon Invitational October 14.
