WARREN, Mich. – One game at a time. Macomb is back in the postseason and will look to become the first NJCAA Region 12 men's basketball program to win four consecutive district championships in the Division II ranks. The march toward history begins with a tough test Tuesday (March 3) against St. Clair County Community College at Wayne State's Matthaei Center.
Tip-off for the season's 'rubber match' is set for 7 p.m. on the Wayne State campus.
The Monarchs finished the regular season 17-12 overall and tied for second place in the MCCAA East with a 10-4 league record. The Monarchs won the tiebreaker to earn the East's No. 2 seed and will host the 5-seed Skippers, who went 17-12 overall and 8-6 in league play, Tuesday evening.
The winner of Tuesday's matchup will move on to the Great Lakes District B semifinals on Thursday (March 5) at Mott Community College at 7:30 p.m. against Edison State Community College.
PLAYOFF PICTURE: Also in the Great Lakes District B bracket is MCCAA West No. 3 seed Grand Rapids Community College and West No. 4 seed Lake Michigan College. The Raiders will host the Red Hawks at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that contest will face No. 8 Mid Michigan College, who recently earned a MCCAA Northern Conference Championship and the No. 1 seed in the bracket, Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

The district champion will move onto the NJCAA DII National Championship at the famed Mary Miller Center in Danville, Ill., from March 16-21.
A LOOK AT SC4: The Skippers ended the regular season on a high note, defeating No. 11 Schoolcraft College on the road by a 66-64 final. Overall, SC4 has won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming to MCCAA East Champion Henry Ford College on Feb. 21.
Chris McLavish averages a team-high 14.0 points and 4.4 assists per game. De'Andre Terrell has posted 13.7 points and a team-best 7.2 rebounds per night while Kevin Tiggs has recorded 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
The Skippers average 80.1 points per game as a team under head coach Richard Field.
A LOOK AT MACOMB: The Monarchs cruised to a 109-78 road victory over Jackson College last Tuesday in the regular season finale. Macomb trailed 24-21 midway through the first half before outscoring the Jets, 35-17, over the final 11 minutes of the half to take a 56-41 halftime lead that they never relinquished.
Joey Angok led Macomb with 23 points, six rebounds and two blocks.
Caron Williams had 18 points and four rebounds while
Tabari Howard posted 14 points and seven rebounds.
Malachi Irving and
Dante Wimberly had 13 points each.
Keithan Gilmore and
Justin Gloster posted eight points each, with Gilmore grabbing a team-high nine rebounds and dishing out seven assists.
Christopher Burns' team had their best offensive showing of the year in the Jackson win as they shot 58.8% from the field and 45.8% from 3-point range thanks in part to 25 assists. The Monarchs also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Jets, 42-18.
Williams ended the regular season leading Macomb in scoring with 14.1 points per game. Angok has posted 12.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 15 games played. Irving recorded 11.4 points per contest while
Donald Wilburn tallied 10.8 points per game. Howard led the Monarchs in rebounding (6.8 RPG) and assists (3.5 APG). He also averaged a team-best 1.5 steals per game.
Macomb averages 75.8 points per game as a team while pulling down 41.6 rebounds and dishing out 14.0 assists.
EARLIER THIS SEASON: Macomb and SC4 split the season series this year with the home team winning each meeting. The Monarchs earned a 76-69 victory on the campus of Wayne State University back on Jan. 21 before dropping their road tilt in Port Huron by a 71-67 final tally.
The Skippers victory snapped a five-game Macomb winning streak in the series.
