Macomb Women's Basketball fended off a second half Mott rally to win, 66-49, and improve to 14-10 overall and 6-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference with four games remaining in league play. The win culminated a great night on the hardwood for the Monarchs as the team honored
Teagan Malloy in support of her ongoing courageous battle.
Thursday's win inches the Monarchs closer to securing a postseason spot as the Blue & White ended the night with a magic number of one (1). The Monarchs will officially clinch a spot in one of the three upcoming Great Lakes District Tournaments with a win or a Wayne County Community College loss on Saturday.
The Monarchs jumped out to a 20-10 lead after one quarter of play and held a 39-26 halftime advantage before the Bears rallied with an impressive performance to start the latter half. After their 13-point halftime lead was whittled down to one with 1:49 remaining in the third quarter, the Monarchs responded with a 12-0 run to cruise to the all-important league the win.
Sydney Garon paced four Monarchs in double figures scoring with 18 points on a 4-of-7 effort from downtown. Garon added six rebounds and four steals in her latest impressive outing, while
A'Liyah Forris posted a stat line of 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Asiyah Jihad and
Vanessa Galovich followed with 11 points each with Jihad corralling eight rebounds and Galovich pulling down five.
Carissa Hankins had six points on two timely 3-pointers and
Janiya McWilliams recorded four points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists in 21 minutes of action.
The Monarchs host No. 14 St. Clair County Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
