DETROIT – Asiyah Jihad tied her career-high with 27 points and added a team-best 11 rebounds to lead Macomb Women's Basketball to a 72-65 road win at Wayne County Community College District in Detroit on Saturday (Feb. 22). Leading by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs had to hold off a late Wildcats surge that saw the hosts pull within one possession in the waning minutes.
The seven-point win lifts the Monarchs to 16-11 overall and 8-5 in the MCCAA East with one game remaining in regular season play. The Monarchs have already secured a spot in the Great Lakes District A Tournament as the East No. 4 seed and will visit the No. 3 seed from the conference on March 4.
A win on March 4 would catapult the Monarchs into the Great Lakes District A Semifinals at Mott Community College on March 7. (

As for Saturday's league tilt, the Monarchs controlled the paint, outscoring the Wildcats by a 38-2 margin.
A'Liyah Forris and
Vanessa Galovich followed Jihad in the scoring column with 12 points each. Galovich added a career-best seven assists and six rebounds and Forris checked in with three steals.
Sydney Garon tallied nine points, while
Carissa Hankins and
Janiya McWilliams tallied six points each to round out the scoring in Detroit.
The Monarchs host No. 19 Jackson College on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 5:30 p.m. Sophomore Night festivities will take place before tip-off.
