WARREN – Macomb Women's Basketball had the Sports & Expo Center rocking on Sophomore Night as the Monarchs took the No. 16 Jackson College Jets to overtime in a narrow 74-73 extra frame setback. The loss ended the Monarchs regular season at 16-12 overall and 8-6 in MCCAA Eastern Conference play. Jackson won the conference outright with the one-point win, coming back from five points down with under two minutes to play in overtime for the victory.
Trailing nine at the half, 41-32, the Monarchs flipped the entire game in the third quarter, outscoring the Jets by a 23-16 margin to pull within two entering the final 10 minutes of regulation. In the fourth, the Monarchs had a chance to win it at the buzzer but their shot fell short as the game was sent to an overtime period – the Monarchs second overtime game of the 2024-25 season.
In the extra frame, the Monarchs led by as many as five, 73-68, with just under two minutes to play, but the 16
th ranked Jets had an answer and finished the game on a 6-0 run to secure the narrow victory.
Asiyah Jihad continued her late season surge with a game-high 24 points and 16 rebounds.
Janiya McWilliams followed with a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds, while
A'Liyah Forris stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds and
Sydney Garon tallied a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Postseason 'win-or-go-home' play is up next as the Monarchs travel to Port Huron on Tuesday (March 4) to take on No. 20 St. Clair County Community College. The winner of the Great Lakes District A play-in game will advance to the semifinals on March 7 at Mott Community College.
