DEARBORN – Asiyah Jihad posted a stat-stuffing line of 19 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals to help lead Macomb Women's Basketball to an 83-67 road victory at Henry Ford on Saturday (Feb. 8). The win lifts the Monarchs to 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the MCCAA Eastern Conference standings.
The host Hawks fell to 2-20 overall and 1-8 in league play with the loss.
After a slow start that resulted in a 25-16 deficit after 10 minutes of play, the Monarchs were able to find their rhythm in the middle quarters, outscoring the Hawks 45-20 in the second and third quarters combined to secure the win.
KEY STAT: Defense turned to offense for the Monarchs throughout as the Blue & White scored 35 points off 40 Hawks turnovers in the 16-point triumph.
While Jihad led the way, several other Monarchs stepped up in the road win as
Vanessa Galovich recorded 17 points to go along with four rebounds,
Janiya McWilliams added 13 points and six rebounds and
A'Liyah Forris equaled McWilliams offensively with 13 points.
Sydney Garon rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points.
Forris, Garon and Jihad paced the defensive effort with three steals each while
Ava Prasnjak added a block and a steal to accompany four points and three rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
The Monarchs return home on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against the Bears of Mott Community College.
