WARREN – Another first for Macomb Men's Basketball as redshirt sophomore guard
Josh Hines became the first player in program history to earn NJCAA Division II First Team All-American honors following a release by the association on Wednesday (April 9). Hines earned the honor after averaging 21.2 points per game on 50.9% shooting (38.6 3P%) while adding 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals per game against one of the toughest schedules in the country.
The talented guard helped lead Macomb to the program's first back-to-back MCCAA Eastern Conference Championships and the program's third consecutive Great Lakes District Championship. Hines culminated his Macomb career with back-to-back 30 win seasons and a second trip to the NJCAA Division II National Championship where he was named to the All-Tournament Team. This year marked the program's third consecutive trip to the national championship.
Hines' selection marked the fourth All-American in as many seasons (fifth overall) for Macomb Men's Basketball, joining
Juwan Maxey (2023-24),
Aidan Rubio (2022-23),
John Ukomadu (2021-22) and
Dwight Burton (2017-18). Burton, Maxey and Ukomadu were Second Team All-American selections while Rubio earned Third Team All-American status.
Burton went on to become an NAIA All-American at Madonna University and is currently playing in the Basketball Super League (BSL) with the Pontiac Pharaohs. Ukomadu played at the NCAA Division I level and is now excelling in the NBA G-League for the hometown Motor City Cruise. Maxey and Rubio are both currently playing at the NCAA Division I level.
Hines is likely to soon follow the recent run of Division I transfers out of Macomb.
