BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Two races into 2025 and Macomb Men's Cross Country has two top junior college finishes as the Monarchs placed second at Saturday's (Sept. 6) Ferris State University Ray Helsing Invitational. After placing second overall last week and first among junior college programs in the field, the 14
th ranked Monarchs repeated that feat by finishing behind NCAA Division II Ferris State and ahead of 15
th ranked Muskegon Community College in the three-team event.
Macomb finished with a team score of 57, good for 10 points ahead of Muskegon, a team who opened the 2025 campaign one spot back of the Monarchs in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll.
The top four runners for the Monarchs improved upon their times from last week's opener as the Blue & White were once again led by
Jacob Kosidlo as the freshman crossed the 8K finish line at 26:58 to check in 13
th overall, eighth among attached runners.
Michael Nivala Jr. was six seconds behind Kosidlo as the 10
th scoring runner in the race (15
th overall) at 27:04, while
Brandon Penberthy was the 11
th attached runner and 17
th overall after clocking in at 27:17.
Jack DeWaele, one of three sophomores running for the Monarchs Saturday afternoon, posted a time of 28:23 to finish as the 13
th attached runner and 22
nd overall and
Lucas LaMilza, one of three Macomb freshmen competing, recorded a time of 28:52 for a 28
th place finish (15
th attached runner).
Mathieu Fortier finished three seconds off last week's pace with a 30:13 to check in 17
th attached and 32
nd overall.
The Monarchs are back in action Sept. 19 with an added race at Olivet Nazarene University's Midwest Classic. The men's 8K event is scheduled for a 7:10 p.m. ET / 6:10 p.m. CT start from Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.
