ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Macomb men's and women's track teams competed in the third indoor meet of the year on Saturday (Feb. 7) at the Mike Lints Alumni Open hosted by Grand Valley State University. The Monarchs had men and women compete in the 5K races and both sides posted stellar days to continue to build momentum for the young program.

Michael Nivala Jr. had another career day, eclipsing his career PR in the 5K by over a minute after running a 15:06 to place third overall behind a pair of NCAA Division II runners. The 15:06 was the 15th fastest time ran in the NJCAA this season.

Jack DeWaele also competed in the men's 5k, running 17:34 while Brandon Penberthy posted a time of 19:33. 

On the women's side, Emma Dell led four Monarchs with a 10th place finish and time of 19:42. Erin Rowan crossed the line in 20:02--good for an indoor PR--while Amber Watta ran 22:56 and Erin Leverenz ran 25:14, respectively. 

Macomb is back in action Feb. 20 at the SVSU Tune-Up. The meet will begin at 2:30 p.m.
